3 Blog Topics to Help People Who Are Quarantined

After a few days of being glued to the news and realizing it was just making my anxiety worse, I am getting back to work.

Tips for Working from Home Full-Time (in the middle of a lockdown)

Let’s talk a little about working from home, especially if you are just now adjusting to this idea based on local shutdowns in your community.

Over the past two weeks, the coronavirus outbreak has gone from dozens of people with the virus, to thousands.

I live in California, one of the worst 3 states in the US to get hit, but it isn’t even close to the amount of people in China and Italy who have been affected.

I hope you are all safe and healthy – and have enough toilet paper. If you have more than enough, make sure your neighbors have enough? Sharing is caring. 

I know quite a lot of people are taking time off from their day jobs right now, whether because of self-isolation, kids being out of school, or because your place of business has shut down. Whatever the reason, you might not be used to working from home full-time. 

The good news is, working from home is awesome. The bad news is, it’s also kind of terrible. I have been doing it for almost 10 years and while I can’t even imagine what it would be like working outside the house again, there are definitely some challenges. 

Keep in mind these are tips based on my own experiences and circumstances. Take them with a grain of salt on the rim of the margarita you’re probably day drinking right now to deal with the stress and anxiety of running out of hand soap before the store has restocked.

How to (Kind of) Survive Working from Home Full-Time

1. Don’t Day Drink. All jokes aside, it is a terrible idea. Have I done it? Yes. Might I do it again? Probably. And yeah, you might love that “Write Drunk, Edit Sober” quote from Ernest Hemingway, but do you know what’s hard to do when you’re drunk at 11am? Write. And work. And answer customer service emails. And do literally anything. 0/10 recommend.

2. Don’t Get Dressed if You Don’t Want to. I know. Everyone is going to tell you to get up when you normally would, take a shower, get dressed like you’re going to the office, have a dedicated workspace, blah blah. If you think that will help, by all means do it. But I rarely do. 

I get dressed just enough to be able to take my dogs out without embarrassing my neighbors. That means put on a bra, and make sure I’m wearing pants. 

I think the most important thing is to be comfortable. Maybe for you that means wearing your pajamas, or changing into your daytime yoga pants (hello, best friend, me too!), or wearing jeans like some kind of savage. You do you! 

3. Keep Your Phone in Another Room. Oh, the cell phone. Literally the most distracting thing on the planet. Not barking dogs, not screaming kids, not even your neighbors deciding 6am on a Saturday is an awesome time to mow their lawn. Your phone is what is going to keep you from getting any work done. 

Don’t just turn it off. Don’t just flip it over and promise yourself you won’t look – we all know you will. It will buzz even if the ringer is off, the notifications will be pinging all damn day, and it’s really hard to resist. 

Just leave it plugged in, in a different room where it’s seen and not heard. Trust me. Stop shaking your head. You will survive a few hours without it, I promise.

4. Find Your Optimal Working Hours. You probably already know what they are. Think about when you are in the office and are most productive, or when you tend to get a burst of energy at your retail job. Or when you feel the most creative while working at home. It doesn’t matter what your job was before switching to working from home – you have certain times of the day when you get more done. 

Take advantage. I have given this tip a million times before, and I will keep doing it. I have gone from being a night owl to a morning person, because I figured out within the first couple years of working from home that my ideal focus time is about 5am to noon. That’s it. I get almost nothing done the rest of the day, because my brain refuses to let me. 

Adjust your schedule so that you can (hopefully) work during those optimal hours, no matter when they are. 

5. Self-Care, Self-Care, Self-Care. I kind of hate how trendy this phrase is, but I do think it’s extremely important for all freelancers, entrepreneurs, and especially people who might be new to working from home full-time. I could easily write a book about this, but here are just a few things I personally do for self-care:

  • Sing to Play with my dogs.
  • Go for a walk (it counts as social distancing when you’re really good at avoiding other people). 
  • Read.. like real books. The old-fashioned ones made from PAPER. I know. Crazy. 
  • Listen to NOT podcasts. If you like podcasts, that’s probably ok. I try to avoid them like the plague coronavirus.
  • Close my computer and do literally anything else. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself.

*I didn’t leave the tip of making sure you get out of the house and talk to people so you don’t get sofa butt, but right now it’s not a super practical tip. I do think fresh air is good for you though. If you’re on quarantine, just open your window and stick your head out. I think that’s allowed? 

That’s all I think. I probably missed no less than 10 thousand good tips, but my brain is currently experiencing information overload from all the news. 

I think I’ll go wash my hands again.

Why Keto is So Popular | PLR Tips

Hey – Jenn here from Health & Wellness PLR.

I’m back to talk about something I genuinely did not think I would ever talk about again… Keto. If you’re new you might not realize this, but I have released at least 10 different products on Keto over the last few years. It seemed like every time I released a new one, I had 20 more requests for additional content. 

I think around Summer of 2019 I was about burnt out by it, and when this year started, I was sure other people would be done with it too.

Boy was I wrong. 

Almost every blog I follow, most of which have nothing to do with food or healthy lifestyles or diets, has had new posts recently about the Keto diet. Honestly, I felt like I was being berated by this diet that I couldn’t seem to escape. 

It was weird. 

Then my good friend Trish released a new Keto pack with all new recipes and I was like, okay so everyone else knows something I don’t know. 

But the more I thought about it, the more it kind of made sense. I have been around long enough to see how diet trends come and go. Most of them don’t stick around very long – so when they do, you have to ask yourself why. What makes it so special. 

As someone who did Keto for about 6 months (a story for another time) and has written about it a lot, I have come up with 5 reasons I personally think it is still so popular, and is probably not leaving any time soon:

1. There are legitimate health benefits. Keto was originally created as a way to help control seizures in people with epilepsy. We all know this. But for everyone else, there are still tons of health benefits aside from weight loss. It gives you more energy, reduces cravings, gets rid of brain fog, reduces inflammation that might lead to chronic pain, helps women with PCOS, and so on. 

When you have a diet that actually delivers on these types of benefits instead of being JUST for weight loss, it is bound to be more popular than something that is just meant to help shed the fat. It is also a lot easier to build an audience around the diet. 

2. Companies have jumped on board. Like all of them. The amount of companies I have seen create products specifically for people on the Keto diet is.. impressive. Yes, there are some who are just taking advantage of the “keto” name and the products are probably crap, but most of the ones I have seen are kind of amazing if this is your lifestyle choice. 

Not only does this keep people interested in the diet, but it is great news if you like talking about keto on your blog, since there are a LOT of affiliate opportunities out there.

3. It is insanely effective if you are consistent. If you can get past the miserable keto flu phase, you will probably be able to stick to keto for a while. You have to love the food of course (which I wasn’t a fan of, personal preference). 

But I can say this was the most consistent I ever was on a diet. You notice pretty quickly how it gets rid of almost all your cravings, you have a much smaller appetite, tons of energy, and really want to stay involved in the keto community.

I found that even if I was thinking of getting off it, when I saw other people talking about it, I got interested again. The more you talk about it on your blog, the more people feel inspired to stay engaged.

4. Keto can be simple if you let it be simple. People love to complicate things, and keto is actually very simple. Eat less than 20 net carbs a day, and you’re golden. I found it to be pretty easy as far as the “rules” of the diet, if you’re into the type of food you’re allowed.

5. There is a HUGE following on social media. Like a cult following. People who love Keto REALLY love Keto. As cliché as it sounds, it becomes your entire lifestyle. You live and die by Keto. You want all your friends to do Keto. You tell everyone how amazing Keto is. 

People want to belong to a community, and they get that with Keto, which is why I think this is probably at the top of the list for reasons people keep coming back to it. 

How You Can Leverage the Popularity – Give Your Audience New Recipes

From what I have seen on other blogs, social media accounts, and my personal experience, what people want more of is recipes. Really good ones that keep you in ketosis and aren’t just “bacon and eggs”, which by the way gets old really fast.

The Wide-Reaching Appeal of Intuitive Eating | Intuitive Eating PLR

As a provider of private label rights (PLR) content, I have covered a wide range of topics over the years. The main niche health and wellness, so that includes physical health, mental health, diet, fitness, weight loss, natural and holistic health, personal development, and so much more.

But I recently released my favorite topic by far – Intuitive Eating. I am extremely proud of it, both in the research and writing, and putting it all together. I am really happy to give you this opportunity to share intuitive eating with your audience.

Shortly after I announced this new bundle in my store, I got a question from someone that I wanted to address (Yes, I have her permission).

She asked: “If diet content is so popular, why would I want to talk about intuitive eating? Isn’t it anti-dieting?”

Great question. The first obvious answer is – Your audience does not just consist of people on diets or who want to lose weight.. there are a lot of people out there who are ready to find another way to live a healthy lifestyle.

But another point I want to make is about the reasons people turn to intuitive eating in the first place. It might help you understand the value of it, and how appealing it can be to your audience.

Who is Intuitive Eating For?

In its simplest form, intuitive eating is just “normal eating”. People who have never been on a diet or restricted foods or obsessively exercised to burn off more calories, are just normal eaters. It is how we are all born. We eat when we’re hungry, and stop when we’re full. We let our bodies determine what sounds good, and trust our own internal hunger and fullness cues.

The problem is that dieting can destroy the hunger cues. They mess with your head, they interrupt your hunger signals, and they create a lot of guilt and shame around food. This makes it almost impossible to eat “normally”. (Yes, I know there are exceptions. There are always exceptions)

So, who do I think intuitive eating is for?

  • Anyone who has been on a diet that caused mental or physical turmoil.
  • People who are stuck in the diet-binge cycle.
  • People who are struggling with long binge periods between diets.
  • Yo-yo dieters.
  • Anyone who is just fed up with the constant shame and guilt around food.
  • People who are obsessive about food and exercise.
  • Anyone who feels out of control around food.

These are all signs of disordered eating. Not to be confused with eating disorders – which require medical treatment. Disordered eating is born from a history of restrictions, including mental restrictions. 

I guarantee you have a lot of people who read your blog and open your emails who are struggling with their disordered eating, but don’t know what to do next. This is a HUGE topic with many variables. No two people are going to be the same. Everyone has a different history and a different relationship with food.

I personally don’t think you have to be anti-diets to have a desire to eat more intuitively. It’s not for the small percentage of people who can start a diet, stick to it long-term, and make it part of their healthy lifestyle. Those people find what works for them, and that’s amazing.

It’s for everyone else. The people who have had enough. Who have done their last diet. Who are just ready to move on from the diet-binge cycles, and want to live a normal life with normal eating, and never count a calorie or WW point again.

Diets are always going to be around, and always going to be popular. They are not inherently bad – many of them become a new way of eating for the people who find a diet that really works with their preferences and lifestyles.

But disordered eating and toxic relationships with food are ALSO always going to be around. Which is why I think content about intuitive eating can be so valuable.

Self-Care Routine for Workaholics | Self-Care PLR

Self-care – the thing we all need to do, and most of don’t have the time or MAKE the time to do it. So, let’s talk about self-care as entrepreneurs, and why so many of us struggle with it.

Why do entrepreneurs and small business owners have such a hard time with self-care? I really think it all comes down to freelancer guilt. We work for ourselves and most of us work from home, so we think we always need to be working. If you’re home, your computer is there, so why aren’t you working?! That’s my jerk of a brain on the daily.

That mentality is also what has caused a lot of unnecessary stress in my life.

The more I become aware of my anxiety and stress triggers, the more I realize how downtime and self-care is essential. I am not going to bore you with the constantly growing list of daily self-care activities, but here are some that are related to my life as an entrepreneur.

How I Practice Self-Care as an Entrepreneur

Scheduled Time Off – I think this is one of the best things you can do for yourself, and also one of the most difficult. I have been an entrepreneur/freelancer for about 10 years, and I remember the first several years, NEVER taking time off. And I mean never. Weekends, birthdays, Christmas, I worked it all.

I had it in my head that the harder I worked, the more successful I would be. And while in general that is true, burnout is NOT going to help you. Human beings need rest and time off.

I not only have “work hours” where I force myself to stop working at a certain point, but I plan entire days where I am able to take time off. It is usually on the weekend, but I am also prone to a random Day Off Wednesday.

Unplugging – For entrepreneurs like me who work from home, you feel like your entire home is your office. This makes it really hard to not work when a computer is in front of you. Our entire work life is on a computer, we answer emails from our phones, we take our work with us no matter where we are and what we are doing. At least I know I do.

You know what this leads to? Stress. And burnout. And more stress. So, during the times when I am practicing self-care, taking time off from work, or just trying to spend time with other people, I completely unplug. No laptop and no phone.

Using a Digital Clock – Speaking of unplugging, this is seriously the best decision I have made for myself in a long time. I have always been someone who wakes up multiple times a night. I never sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time before having to find a new sleeping position. The problem is that I would check my phone every time. I convinced myself it was just to see what time it was, but really I always looked at my notifications.

MANY times while doing this, I would have some work email that stressed me out and completely woke me up, so I would be opening my laptop at 2am to solve some random problem, or laying there for hours just stressing over whatever notification I got.

Finally, I decided to keep my phone shut off and nowhere near my bed when I go to sleep. Instead, I got a digital alarm clock for my bedside table. Now, when I wake up in the middle of the night, I can quickly see the time, then roll over and not worry about notifications that could definitely wait until morning.

Writing for Fun, Not Work – Like many PLR providers, I started writing for fun. I was one of those dorky kids who had stacks of diaries, journals, poems, short stories, and novel ideas in my bedroom. If I wasn’t drawing, I was writing.

I have been fully immersed in creating printables (journals and planners) with PowerPoint recently, thanks to an awesome course by Sue Fleckenstein from Createful Journals.

I am a visual learner. I need to SEE how to do something, not be TOLD how to do it. This course provided the perfect opportunity to learn a lot of little things I didn’t know about PowerPoint, and create my own templates as well as learn how to edit other ones.

Basic Overview of the Course

The Journal & Planner Course  was created by Sue Fleckenstein from Createful Journals. Learning How PowerPoint Works

One of my favorite things about the course is through each demonstration, you learn a little more about how PowerPoint works.

This is why I was so intimidated by it. I have honestly NEVER used it before a couple days ago, aside from viewing templates. I have no idea what it does or how it works, because I never really had a need for it.

What you will notice is that you learn about the different tools and features of PowerPoint very quickly, so this is really valuable. I went through all the videos, not just the ones that applied to me, and that really helped me learn some extra tips and tricks.

Starting with the Templates

The first thing you will learn in the course, aside from just the basics of PowerPoint, is using her templates and customizing them. You guys – this is so much easier than I realized!

You get the hang of it really fast, and trust me, you will learn how to edit the PLR journals and planners you get in like minutes.

I’m a total tech dummy, so if I can figure it out, you can!

Creating My Own Pages

I ended up customizing a couple of her awesome templates, but I did most of the pages (err slides) myself. NOT because her templates weren’t great, but just because this is a niche-specific journal, and I had other ideas for some of the pages.

The good news is that she explains how to create your own templates from scratch – so if you buy a planner or journal, and want to add a little to it, this course definitely helps you learn how to do it quick and easy.

What I Found the Most Helpful (and surprising)

  1. She moves fast, but not too fast. If you have ever gone through a tutorial online, you know what I’m talking about. When people go too slow (they mean well), it can feel like it’s dragging on for so long. You get like 10 steps ahead while they are still explaining what a font is.

Sue does move pretty fast, so you might pause a few times, but I liked the speed because you never really feel like you’re there waiting for some long, drawn out explanation.

  1. She explains why she is doing something. I think this is important, especially when learning a new program. While I want to see how to do something, I also need to know its purpose. There are several examples where she gives you a few different options for making a change or edit, and the pros and cons of each option.
  2. All the templates you need to start with are included.I know she mentions the templates on her sales page, but there were some amazing ones in there, with multiple variations of quite a few of them. Honestly, there is a LOT you can do just from these templates, so don’t feel intimidated about starting from scratch.
  3. The Facebook Group. When you get access to the course, you also get access to the Facebook group. This lets you ask her or other members specific questions in case you get stuck.

Why You Should Blog About Anxiety

Maybe you have a lifestyle blog where you prefer to keep things light and fun, or your list is health-based where you prefer talking about holistic health or common health conditions, but prefer not to talk about mental health.

I understand this philosophy, but I guarantee people on your list or who read your blog suffer from anxiety and other mental health issues.

Here is the thing about anxiety – Not everyone likes to talk about it.

I think the stigma is gradually becoming less of an issue, but many people don’t even want to seek professional help or tell their doctor.

What do they do about it?

They look it up online! That is how I originally figured out I was suffering from anxiety and panic disorder, and I know many others like me do the same thing.

YOU can be the blog people turn to when they want to learn about the symptoms, when to get help, what they can do from home, and the best ways to cope with anxiety and panic attacks.

Just Look at the Statistics

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety is the most common mental health condition in the United States alone. I imagine there are similar statistics in other parts of the world.

At any given time, approximately 40 million people are suffering from anxiety.

Anxiety is highly treatable. This is perhaps the most important statistic to keep in mind.

I used to have this lifestyle blog that really didn’t have a lot of posts on it and I wasn’t consistent with at all. But I did have a series where I talked about my own experience with anxiety, and those were always the most read posts and the ones more people interacted with me about.

Why? Because not only did a lot of people who found my blog want to know more about anxiety, but they felt connected to me because we shared the same symptoms or experiences with it.

Even if you don’t personally struggle with anxiety, you might know someone who does, so you already have a fresh perspective on it – from someone who has seen how it can impact other people. Use that!
